Down With the Braves

The Braves need to loose. They are only three games behind the Rocks now, and you can believe that they will not back off. The Rocks need to play like they did last night and get Huston back up to his full power. Ever since he had tendentious he hasn’t been doing as well. I'm not sure if he still has some tendentious or if he has just fallen off his game. Whatever it is he needs to get back on top and hold off the Braves.

I Take It Back

He didn't pull it off!! I still have to give him props for one, selling it that he actually did catch the ball, and two, doing like two rolls in the process. I don’t think he is the prodigy any more, but he still did an amazing job. I would also like to thank the Cards for not refuting it, but what do they care they all ready won the division.

Barmes Saves The Day

Barmes is my new favorite Rocky. If he hadn't made that catch the Rocks probably would have lost the game. I didn't know he was capable of that many flips. If he had been in a stock car, he would have been Joey Lagono at Dover this week (7 and 1/4 flips for the Home Depot #20). I also have to give props to Huston for tossing 6 outs instead of three. The Rocks need to keep this up, and hope and pray that Braves loose.

Bambi II

Giambi is a beast. The veins he has popping out of his biceps are bigger than the ones I have one my fore-arms. If I were an umpire, I would be scared to ring him up. If he were to become angry and punch me in the face, I would have to eat through a straw for 2 weeks. The good thing about him though is not exactly that he is as strong as the hulk, but that he comes through when the Rocks need him to. He doesn’t always hit homers, but he sure is capable of doing so. This creates the intimidation factor when he comes to the plate, and the mental part of the game is half the battle. That is why I now say, that picking up Giambi is the best thing the Rockies have ever done, second only to drafting Tulo.

Need to Pull it Together

The Rocks need to pull it together. Even with Cookie back last night, they barely pulled it off, and the wild card isn't going to win it's self. I was listening to Rockies Radio network and heard a baseball annalist describe the way they are playing these days as defensive. I found myself asking what happened to the aggressive, put up a number, Rockies that played in August. Even if they are playing one of the best teams in the NL, the Cardinals record is almost the same as Colorado's. I'm not saying that they should be blowing out everybody who steps on the diamond with them, but losing all these games is not helping in the wild card chase. As my coach would say, they need to want the ball, they need to want to make a play, want to hit it to the fence. Right now it looks like every one of them is sanding out there thinking “Please don’t hit it to me, please don’t hit it to me.” If they’re thinking like that of course they aren’t going to make plays. It seems like all they want to do right now is go home so it can be over with. That kind of attitude is a refund on their investment in October. I just hope that Mr. Tracey can pull off another miracle.

What was better?

Tulowitzki is one of the best short stops in the league, but what was his better accomplishment; the unassisted triple play or hitting the cycle? Turning an un-assisted triple play is difficult, but is mostly luck. For a line drive to come straight at you, while you happen to be standing on second base and then you have the presence of mind to chase down and tag the runner coming from first. The whole play was Tulo being in the right place at the right time. If it had been Barmes who caught the ball, he would have made the triple play. Now hitting for the cycle is a whole different story. Yes, getting a hit takes some luck, but it is mostly skill. To have four or five AB’s a game doesn’t raise the chances of hitting the cycle, because to hit the cycle you have to make an extra base hit in every AB but one. Being a player myself, I can say through personal experience that it is really hard to hit the cycle. So really is no argument that hitting the cycle is Tulo greatest accomplishment of the 2009 season… so far.

Bambi

I congratulate Jim Tracy on picking up Jason Giambi. The only problem is that he and Helton are both old men, so when Helton finally retires, because he will retire soon, Garret Atkins will be our only first basemen. Giambi is good at what he does though, mainly looking like a he belongs to a biker gang. He gets the job done though, he gets a hit just about every time he comes up. The question is if he is still on steroids, because he has had problems with drugs in the past and to me he looks pretty beefed up. I'm not an expert, for all I know the effects of steroids last forever, or maybe he just works out a lot (which I would like to believe). All in all, good job by Jim Tracy and the Rocks for picking him up.

Where is Houston?

What is really wrong with Huston Street? Does he really have tendonidous or is it something more serious? Tendonidous definately should not have lasted this long. The Rocks need him back, even if it isn't a save situation get him out there and working. The best thing for tendonidous is to get a good strech and he definately is not doing that sitting on the bench. The trainers should have him out there in the nineth getting a good strech, unless there is something else wrong with him. If that is the case then they need to do something to get him better soon because we are going to need him for the rest of september and in october.
